Fine-Tuning Yourself

At the end of each year you’re faced with a few options for the new year ahead; keep going as you are, make a drastic change, or simply fine tune and tweak one or two things.

I find myself in the middle, well, the last option – tweak and fine tune. There’s no need to make drastic changes, but I also don’t want to be static. Don’t want to feel the same.

Here are some ideas if you’re looking to up your game a bit, all relating to holistic health and wellbeing.

  • Sleep. I usually sleep like a baby, but I do wake up in the middle of the night from time to time, just staring at the ceiling until I fall asleep again. Not a massive problem, but it means it can be improved. My goal is to fall asleep and not wake up once during the night, have a proper night’s sleep, and wake up fully rested in the morning.

I’ve ordered an aromatherapy diffuser, which is a small upgrade from the ceramic essential oil diffuser, safer and with more features obviously. Using lavender essential oil (calming and soothing before sleep) is one benefit, and the fact that it greatly improves air quality is another.

I also use Sweet Pillow Spray with a calming blend of florals and herbs on my pillow, which helps to relieve stress and anxiety.

Another way to find yourself in a positive sleep cycle is to take a Melatonin supplement. The sleep aide naturally assists the body to help manage sleep cycles and give you a deeper sleep.

Before bedtime, eat a few almonds and drink some warm chamomile tea, which helps to calm down the body.

Last tip is to buy a few bedroom friendly plants. I recommend the Pothos plant.

  • De-clutter. Go through all your drawers, wardrobe, bathroom shelves, box room etc, and literally throw away all the things, clothes and products you haven’t used in the last year. Some things can be donated to charity and some things are literally good for nothing. Remove anything that takes up energy and gives nothing in return.
  • Go through your supplements. It’s easy to do a blood test to determine if you have a vitamin deficiency, or simply go by what you feel is wrong, and google your way to the best supplement. I take a few supplements daily, for energy levels, healthy nervous system, healthy skin, muscle and bones etc, but I will add 1 or 2 this year to find an even better balance.
  • Check your Blood Type – I follow both my Ayurveda body type (Vata) and my blood type when I choose what I eat and how I exercise. It’s always good to know your body and blood type as it makes it easier to follow the best options for you. For example, since my Ayurveda dosha (type) is mainly Vata, I’m very sensitive to wind. Whenever the weather forecast says wind, I plan not to go out or do much at all, as it really affects my mood. Worth a try!
